- Route 1: Phlebotomy program approved by the NAACLS and high school graduation or equivalent.

- Route 2: Two-part formal structured phlebotomy program that must be organized by the director (program). This 2-part structured program includes clinical training and orientation of 100 clock hrs from an approved lab with the performance of 100 unaided venipunctures and classroom training of 40 clock hours in specimen grouping, physiology of the circulatory system, lab operation, and specimen handling and processing.

- Route 3: Phlebotomy technician clinical experience of one year and equivalent or high school graduation.

- Route 4: Equivalent or high school graduation and LPN, RN or relevant other authorized allied health professional education which comprises phlebotomy orientation and training in the lab with performance of 100 unaided blood grouping including skin punctures & venipunctures.

- Route 5: MLS or MLT ASCP certification.

- Route 6: DPT ASCP certification and performance of a minimum 100 unassisted non-donor bl0od grouping including skin punctures & venipunctures.

- Route 7: Phlebotomy program offered by the California Department of Public Health and high school graduation or equivalent.
International PBT ASCP

- Route 1: Phlebotomy program (formal) that consists of classroom training in lab operation, specimen processing & handling, circulatory system physiology, anatomy, and clinical training in a lab with 100 unaided venipunctures performance and high school graduation.

- Route 2: High school graduation and clinical experience of one year as a phlebotomy technician (experience must be included in skin punctures & venipunctures)
