  • Route 2: Baccalaureate degree from an approved institution in biological science or chemistry, or bachelor’s degree with the combination of 30 semester hours in chemistry &biology and clinical experience (must be of at least one year).
  • Route 3: Hematology structures program under the supervision of NAACLS-approved medical lab scientist program, a baccalaureate degree in chemistry or biological science or with a combination of 30 semester hours in chemistry & biology,
  • Route 4: Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field and six months of clinical experience in hematology.
  • Route 5: Medical lab scientist program offered by the NAACLS and bachelor’s degree from an approved college or bachelor’s degree with the combination of 30 semester hours in biology & chemistry.

H ASCPi Eligibility Routes

  • Route 1: International medical lab scientist ASCP certificate and bachelor’s degree.
  • Route 2: Baccalaureate degree in chemistry or biological science or baccalaureate degree with the combination of 30 semester hrs in chemistry or biology and one year of clinical experience in hematology.
  • Route 3: Baccalaureate degree with the combination of 30 semester hours in biology & chemistry or bachelor’s degree in biological science or chemistry from an approved college/university and hematology clinical training program.
  • Route 4: Six months of hematology clinical experience from an approved laboratory and a master’s degree in chemistry or a related field.
  • Route 5: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and medical laboratory training program.

Eligibility Requirements for SH ASCP Hematology Specialists

The hematology specialist certificate also goes to U.S. and international candidates.

SH ASCP Eligibility Route

  • Route 1: Baccalaureate degree in medical lab science and medical laboratory training program.
  • Route 2: Master’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, allied health, or other related field and three years of hematology clinical experience.
  • Route 3: Doctorate in biology, medical laboratory science, immunology, or other relevant field and post-doctoral fellowship of two years in clinical hematology or hematology clinical experience (two years) from an acceptable lab.
  • Route 4: H ASCP or MLS ASCP certificate, a doctorate in chemistry, microbiology, medical lab science, allied health, or other relevant field, and one year of clinical experience in hematology or one year of research experience in hematology.
  • Route 5: Bachelor’s degree, H or MLS ASCP certificate, and three years of clinical hematology experience as an academic educator.
  • Route 6: As an academic educator one year of clinical hematology experience, a doctorate in chemistry, immunology, allied health, or an appropriately relevant field, and one year of clinical hematology experience as an academic educator.

SH ASCPi Eligibility Requirements

  • Route 1: Valid H ASCP/ASCPi or MLS ASCP/ASCPi, baccalaureate degree, and clinical experience of three years in hematology.
  • Route 2: Master’s degree in immunology, chemistry, medical lab science, or related field and three years of hematology clinical experience.
  • Route 3: Doctorate in microbiology, biology, chemistry, medical lab science, or other field, and hematology clinical experience of two years.
  • Route 4: H ASCP/ASCPI or MLS ASCP/ASCPi, doctorate from an approved institution in medical lab science, microbiology, chemistry, or other accepted relevant field, and one year of clinical or research experience in hematology.
  • Route 5: Baccalaureate degree, H ASCP/ASCPi or MLS ASCP/ASCPi credential, and clinical hematology three years of experience as an academic educator.
  • Route 6: Clinical hematology experience as an academic educator of one year, MLS ASCP/ASCPi or H ASCP/ASCP certification, and a doctorate in medical lab science, microbiology, chemistry, or an appropriately related field.
